The theme of ageing is hot right now. Maybe it's particularly live for me as my Mum is going through a period of recovery, I have a partner who's significantly younger than me and my peers are navigating menopause.
Each time I look on social media I am inundated with anti aging protocols and so I feel called to explore some hacks that are less spoken about but that work 100% of the time.

  Our face tells the story of our nervous system, and when our is heart open, our face becomes timeless.

Looking younger isn't just a gift of genetics or clean eating or sleep hygiene, though those matter. It's a signal, a reflection, a bio energetic mirror of how deeply we are living in alignment with who we really are.

Our youthfulness, our glow, energy, vibrancy, isn't something that fades with time. It's something that responds to how we treat our nervous system, how we honour our boundaries, how often we invite joy and how willing we are to stay emotionally open in a world that wants us to armour up and shut down.

This is where science meets spirit, because the most regenerative signal we can send to our biology, the one that protects our brain, softens our face and keeps your eyes bright is the signal; I am safe in my body, I am safe being me and most of us are not vibrating at that level.

Spiritual anti aging protocols

When a women emerges from a 121 session there is something I see in her eyes shining and feel in her energy that vibrates as youthful and that radiates in her field impacting everyone she meets. She has usually let go of something old to create space for the new. What I have come to know through my own awakening and healing is that the more we are holding and not willing to let die off, the heavier we feel and this correlates with our biological age.
 
Why some people look and feel younger than others has less to do with their skin care routine and more to do with something energetic and deeply neurological; boundaries.

Ageing from self abandonment – leaking your life force

Our capacity to consciously regulate our exposure to people, environments, and digital inputs that disregulate our nervous system.
People pleasing, saying yes when we mean no, over committing or staying in environments that spike our stress hormones. This low grade survival state accelerates aging, impairs digestion and weakens the immune system, inflamed skin, more tension in the jaw, eyes and shoulders
 
When we learn that our energy is our currency we start to protect it. We develop a dopaminergic  tone which means our reward system isn’t being constantly hijacked by the outside world.  We preserve mental clarity, emotional resilience and lower levels of systemic inflammation which slows down our aging.
Protecting our energy is an act of self-worth. It says, I don't owe everyone access to my attention, my body or my bandwidth, and that creates coherence between what we feel, believe and do. That inner coherence radiates and it takes intention and regular practice

Who or what am I giving access to that doesn't return me to peace and more importantly, what could I look and feel like if I finally honoured the edges of my energy?

When we protect our energy, our biology listens, and it starts restoring you from the inside out. Some of the most underrated spiritual and biological reasons someone appears younger than their age isn't about genetics. It's about how often they enter true, regenerative states. Not sleep, although high quality sleep is essential. This goes deeper. Its regularly entering parasympathetic, dominant, deeply restorative states that signal our body it's safe to heal. This is when cellular repair happens. It's when our immune system recalibrates, our gut microbiome balances itself, and our brain clears out toxic byproducts like beta amyloid. In other words, this is when our body performs its anti aging protocols!

People who look younger, truly younger, have learned the skill of nervous system down shifting. They know how to shift into calm, restorative states on purpose. Maybe it's through meditation, energy work, deep presence throughout the day, breathworks, yoga, turning the inner eye inward, healing and the many practices we cultivate at the mindful being to regularly dial it all down.
 
From a hormonal standpoint, this is a game changer. Regenerative states, lower cortisol and increase oxytocin and GABA, two neuro chemicals that induce calm, connection and neuro plasticity. These also influence our appearance in very real ways. Lower cortisol helps maintain collagen integrity. Higher oxytocin promotes cellular repair. GABA slows excitatory activity in the brain, helping us feel mentally clear and emotionally balanced
What people see as youthful beauty is actually nervous system coherence

Comparison Fatigue
 
One of the most spiritually corrosive forms of stress is the stress of comparison, and in our modern hyper connected, algorithm driven world, it's become nearly constant, but those who age gracefully and often appear younger than their years tend to share a quiet superpower. They've transcended the chronic need to compare themselves to others.

If you are in a constant state of deficit tracking; am I behind? Am I enough? Do I measure up?  cortisol, norepinephrine and dopamine these show up physically in the jaw, the tension around the eyes, shallow breathing, poor posture, even skin conditions related to chronic stress.

The women that I work with are transcending this feminine wound and it shows up in their relaxed musculature, fluid movement and present moment awareness and that neurologically is read by others as youthfulness, as vitality, as someone who's not in the game of proving.

This kind of authenticity has a frequency. It creates coherence across thoughts, words and actions, and when your nervous system aligns like that, it sends a clear message to your biology. You're safe. You're aligned. You can relax.
 
The human face is one of the most expressive surfaces in the body, packed with 43 muscles and directly wired into the brain via the facial nerve, a major branch of the cranial nerves. When we're emotionally closed off, guarded, hardened, shut down, our facial muscles literally change. The forehead tenses, the jaw tightens, the eyes narrow and micro expressions shift to reflect subtle cues of defense. Over time, that default facial posture becomes etched into our skin. The body reads that as chronic stress. Others read it as coldness or fatigue or just aging, but emotional openness, the willingness to stay soft in a hard world, to feel deeply, to express joy, empathy, awe or even grief, changes our physiology. Our eyes carry more depth. Our voice becomes more melodic, less strained. All of these are markers that others unconsciously associate with, youth, vitality and emotional safety, even your immune system responds.
